Glass kitchens, from a glass and aluminium team
Fabrockers works in glass and aluminium every day. A glass kitchen is the same trade, brought indoors. The shutters are glass held in slim aluminium frames. The units are lit from inside, so the kitchen glows in the evening.
Profile shutters are usually sold by the square foot to carpenters. You are then left to get them designed and fitted. We do it as one job. We look at your kitchen, design the units, supply them and fit them.
Which glass for a kitchen?
- Clear glass. Shows everything. It suits crockery and glassware that you want on display.
- Fluted glass. Has fine vertical ribs that blur what is behind them. It forgives a busy shelf and adds texture.
- Tinted glass. Is dark but still see-through, and is also called smoked glass. It hides more when the inside lights are off.
- Lacquered glass. Is painted on the back, so nothing shows through. It is common on kitchen shutters and wipes clean easily. Ask us if you want a fully closed glass look.
What is a profile shutter in a kitchen?
A shutter is the door of a cabinet. A profile shutter is a door made of glass inside a slim aluminium frame, called the profile. A normal shutter is a solid board with laminate or acrylic on it.
Profile shutters suit upper cabinets, tall units and crockery units. They make a kitchen look lighter. The frame comes in finishes such as black, champagne and bronze.
This is not an aluminium kitchen
People often mix the two up. An aluminium kitchen usually means cabinets built from aluminium sections and sheet. It is sold as a low-cost, waterproof option.
A profile shutter kitchen is different. Here the aluminium is only the slim frame around a glass shutter. The look, the glass and the lighting are the point.
Glass in a working kitchen
Ask for toughened glass. It is much stronger than ordinary glass, and if it ever breaks it crumbles into small blunt pieces.
A kitchen has oil and steam in the air. Keep glass shutters away from the space right above the hob. Flat glass wipes clean in seconds. Fluted glass needs a wipe along the ribs now and then.
Handleless kitchens: gola, G and J profiles
A handleless kitchen has no handles on view. There are three common ways to build one. A gola profile is a channel fixed behind the shutters, which leaves a gap for your fingers. G and J profiles are shaped grips along the edge of the shutter itself.
All three give flat, clean fronts. The groove needs a wipe now and then. We show you each on a sample, so you can feel how it opens.
Lighting inside the units
Profile lights are LED strips set in a slim channel with a cover. They give an even line of light with no visible dots. Warm white flatters crockery and wood.
The wiring goes in before the units do. Tell us early if you want lighting, because it is hard to add later.
What decides the cost
We do not print a rate, because no two kitchens are the same. Four things move the cost. The first is the size of the kitchen or the unit. The second is the shutters: the glass and the frame finish. The third is what goes inside, such as drawers, baskets and fittings. The fourth is lighting.

Only need a kitchen, or one unit? That is fine
You do not need a full-home interior project. You can order a kitchen on its own. You can also start with one unit, such as a crockery unit, a pantry or a tall unit.
