Repair work here runs on two clocks. On Mosque Road it is restaurant entrance doors. The time to fix them is before service, not during it. In the streets behind it is old house glass: railing panels, windows, enclosures whose fittings have finally rusted. The parts are alike. The rush is completely different.
Restaurant doors on Mosque Road
A restaurant door here is opened hundreds of times an evening. The floor spring that controls it is a wearing part.
When it starts to slam or drift open, that is the spring, not the glass. Changing one is usually a two to three hour visit. Our van carries the common closers, clamps and handles.
We work before you open. Where a part does need changing, we fit one made for the weight of the door and the heavy use it sees. A closer meant for an office door will not last one season on a restaurant entrance.
Old glass in the streets behind
The houses here bring railing panels, fixed screens and window glass. Often in sizes that are not standard any more.
We match the type, the thickness and any coating, so the new piece does not stand out beside the old ones. On glass that has stood for many years, the tint will not match exactly. We say so.
A chipped or cracked toughened panel is worth changing, not watching. Damage to the edge takes away the strength that toughening gives it. On a stair railing, that is not a chance worth taking.
