Richmond Town and Langford Town are quiet and central. Clients here look closely at the work. Clinics, law firms, design studios and consulting rooms, mostly in bungalows and low blocks that were changed into offices. The rooms are small and the finish matters, because visitors sit in them. That is the whole job here. It is worth saying before we talk about price.
Consulting rooms, where sound matters more than looks
This is our most common job here. A room where a private talk has to stay inside, but the corridor still has to feel open.
Full-height glass, sealed at the top and both sides, drops a normal talk to a low murmur outside. A partition that stops short of the ceiling will not do that, at any price.
So we build these another way. Glass right up to the ceiling. Seals at every edge. And a door that shuts properly with no gap at the floor. Frosting up to sill height, or a fully frosted panel, hides what people can see. Glass is not a solid wall and we will not pretend it is. But sealed full-height glass does most of what people really want.
People choose finishes with care here
More than in most areas, clients here pick their own finishes instead of the standard one. Black and brushed fittings. Frosted patterns. Etched designs. Low-iron glass, with less green in the edge.
All of these cost more than a standard chrome finish. Some add days to the making time.
It is worth deciding before you approve the price, not after. Once a panel is being made it is yours, and changing your mind on the finish means starting again.
Old bungalows, and what they need
The buildings here are old and have usually been changed at least once. Ceilings are high, walls lean a little, and floors are rarely level.
A slim aluminium frame takes that up inside the channel. Frameless has almost no room for it, so a gap shows along the edge.
High ceilings also mean taller panels. Those need thicker glass, and sometimes a support rod at the top tying a long run back to a wall. That keeps the glass steady. It is not to add to the bill. A tall panel that bends works its fittings loose over time.
