Paharganj, beside New Delhi Railway Station, is packed with budget hotels and guest houses. Main Bazaar and the lanes around it are full of them. These hotels are always busy, so they cannot close a floor for work. Our job here is almost always bathroom glass, done one or two rooms at a time while the hotel stays open.
One room at a time, hotel still open
A Paharganj hotel cannot empty a floor. So we work a room or two at a time, as they come free.
A single bathroom enclosure is a day's work. We finish each room fully and hand it back clean, ready for the next guest.
Hotel rooms usually repeat, so once we have measured two, we know the rest. That makes a block of rooms much cheaper per room.
Glass that survives hotel use
Hotel bathrooms get far more use than a home bathroom. Doors are opened roughly and guests are not careful.
So we fit strong hinges and handles, and seals that are easy to replace later. We use toughened glass throughout, because it breaks into small blunt pieces if it ever breaks.
A shower glass that stays clean and sealed is worth a lot to a hotel's reviews.
Getting glass through Main Bazaar
Main Bazaar is crowded at almost every hour. A vehicle cannot stand in it for long.
So we deliver very early, unload quickly and carry the panels in. Many hotel stairs are narrow, so we measure the stair turn first.
Where a panel is too tall, we make it as two with a slim joint.
