What Ghaziabad actually builds

Ghaziabad is society housing, at a density that shapes everything about the job.

Indirapuram, Vasundhara and Vaishali are block after block of group housing from the 2000s, and most of it is now on its first or second round of replacement work. That means bathrooms being redone, shower enclosures replacing shower curtains, aluminium windows being changed, and doors that have dropped on their hinges after twenty years of use. Very little of our work here is a first fitting.

Raj Nagar Extension and Crossings Republik are the opposite: new towers, still filling up, where a bare flat gets everything at once.

Behind all of that is the old city - Kavi Nagar, Nehru Nagar, the GT Road side - where the buildings are kothis with courtyards, and access is the easiest in the district.

Replacement work has a step that new work does not

Taking the old thing out is a real part of the job here, and it is worth understanding before you compare two prices.

An old shower screen has been sealed to the tiles for fifteen years. It comes out, the silicone comes off, and what is underneath is not always sound. Sometimes a tile lifts with it. Sometimes the wall behind is damp because the old seal failed years ago and nobody noticed. We would rather find that at the measuring visit than on fitting day, so we look properly.

The same is true of a window or a door. A twenty-year-old aluminium frame that has dropped may only need new rollers or a new hinge, which is a fraction of the cost of replacing it. We check that first and say so. Selling somebody a whole new unit when the fitting was the problem is the easiest sale in this trade and we would rather not make it.

The RWA sets the working day

In the Ghaziabad society belt the RWA, not the flat owner, decides when work may happen. It is usually written on a notice at the gate: hours, noise restrictions, which lift takes materials, and often a rule about weekends.

We plan the day to fit inside that window. This matters more than it sounds. Fitting a shower enclosure is not a job you can leave halfway - the glass either stands and is sealed or it does not stand. So we size the day's work to what will actually finish, and where a job genuinely cannot fit into one permitted window we say so before you pay anything.

Cutting the silicone and drilling tile is also the noisy part, so we do that first, early in the window, rather than at the end of the afternoon.

Most enquiries here arrive under a household name rather than a trade one, and that is fine. A shower cubicle, shower enclosure, shower partition and bathroom glass partition are all the same thing: the glass that keeps water on the shower side. A glass door for a bathroom usually means a hinged enclosure with a door in it. Toughened, tempered and safety glass are one product.

On the repair side the words are even plainer, and they describe the symptom. A window that will not slide is almost always a roller. A door that catches on the floor has dropped on its hinge or its floor spring. A wardrobe shutter that has come off its track is a runner. A misted or fogged double-glazed unit has lost its seal and the glass unit is replaced rather than repaired. All of that is normal work in a building of this age, and none of it needs the whole frame changed.
