The short answer
Mosquitoes usually come in through open windows that have no mosquito net, mesh or jali. Torn mesh and an open balcony door are the next most common ways in. Mesh fitted to each opening keeps them out and still lets the air through. We do not do pest control or fogging, but we close the openings mosquitoes use.

The windows have no mesh
- How to tell
- Mosquitoes turn up soon after you open the windows in the evening. The windows have glass, and perhaps a grille, but nothing across the opening.
- What we do
- Each window gets its own mesh frame: a slim aluminium frame with the mesh held inside. The mesh is stainless steel, a fine weave of steel wire that does not rust. Each frame slides, swings or stays fixed, so the window still opens as it did.

- How to tell
- The windows already have mesh frames, but mosquitoes still get in. You may see a hole, a sagging corner or a gap beside the frame.
- What we do
- If the frame is sound, we keep it and fit new mesh inside it. We also renew the sealing strip, the soft edge that closes the gap around the frame.

- How to tell
- Mosquitoes come in while the sliding glass door is open in the evening. If you shut it, the room gets stuffy.
- What we do
- We add a mesh door that slides in its own track beside the glass. A track is the rail a sliding door runs along. Your glass doors still slide and lock as they did.

- How to tell
- The opening is very wide or tall, and it has no spare track. A hinged door has no room to swing there either. So it stays either open or shut.
- What we do
- We fit pleated mesh, which folds like a fan into a slim rail at the side. It runs on a low floor rail and stays wherever you leave it.

- How to tell
- Several rooms open onto a balcony with no mesh. Mosquitoes collect there at dusk and come in each time a door opens.
- What we do
- We mesh the balcony's open side, from the railing or grille to the ceiling. The panels sit in slim aluminium frames and lift out from inside for cleaning.

- How to tell
- A grille sits close against the window, so a mesh frame has no room. Or you rent the flat, and drilling into the frames is not allowed.
- What we do
- We fit magnetic mesh: a light mesh panel with a magnetic strip around its edge. It holds onto a thin steel band on the window and peels off by hand. Most fittings need no drilling.

What you can check first

- At dusk, notice which room the mosquitoes reach first, because it points to the way in.
- Walk round in daylight and note every window and door that has no mesh.
- From inside, run a finger gently along each mesh frame to feel for gaps.

Can mosquitoes get in through bathroom windows and ventilators?
Yes, any opening to the outside can let them in. Bathroom windows and ventilators are easy to miss, because nobody opens them. They usually take a simple fixed mesh frame that stays in place.
Can we mesh a few windows first and the rest later?
Yes. Each window gets its own frame, so you can start small and add more. Bedrooms and the door you open most in the evening are a sensible start. Mosquitoes can still come in through any opening left without mesh.
Will mesh stop flies and smaller insects as well?
Mesh fine enough for mosquitoes also stops flies, moths and most other flying insects. The very smallest insects can sometimes get through an ordinary weave. A finer weave is available when we fit new mesh in your existing frames.
Is mesh enough, or do we also need pest control?
Mesh does one job: it stops mosquitoes coming in through the openings. It does nothing about mosquitoes that breed in or around the building. That side of it is pest control, which is not work we do.
