Brown marks on railing clamps can be surface contamination, but bubbling, pitting or cracking points to deeper corrosion. Water trapped around a gasket or fixing can make it worse. We inspect the clamp, the glass edge and the support behind it before deciding whether cleaning, repair or replacement is appropriate.

- The surface is rough, pitted or flaking instead of showing a flat removable stain. Rust returns soon after cleaning, or the clamp has begun to swell around a screw or seam.

- How to tell
- Staining is strongest below one clamp, around its rubber insert or where the fixing meets the floor. A loose cover or failed joint may be letting water remain inside.

- We open the affected fitting safely, remove trapped dirt and inspect the gasket, anchor and surrounding joint. Failed parts are renewed before the clamp is reset.

- How to tell
- The panel has a chip or crack beside the rusty clamp, or the gasket has disappeared and metal touches the glass. This needs more than surface cleaning.

What you can check first
These checks are safe to do yourself. A photo or a short video of what you find helps us come prepared.
- Look for bubbling, flaking or small pits that remain after a gentle wipe with a damp cloth.
- Inspect the underside of each clamp and note where brown water marks begin.
- Check visually whether the rubber gasket is present between the metal and glass.
- Listen for rattling or note visible panel movement without pushing the railing.
- Photograph the affected clamp and the other clamps in the same railing for comparison.
Keep people away if a clamp is cracked, deeply pitted or missing, or if the glass moves or has an edge chip. Do not remove or tighten railing hardware yourself.

Can stainless steel glass railing clamps still show rust marks?
Yes. Surface contamination and harsh exposure can leave rust-coloured staining on stainless steel. Deep pits, swelling or flaking are different and may mean the fitting itself has deteriorated.
Is polishing enough for a rusty glass railing clamp?
Only for light surface staining when the clamp remains solid and its gasket and fixing are sound. Polishing cannot restore metal that is pitted, cracked or thinning. Those fittings should be replaced.
Do all glass railing clamps need replacing when one rusts?
Not automatically. We compare fittings of the same type and age, then replace the ones that are no longer sound. Widespread corrosion may make a larger set of replacements more sensible.
Can a rusting railing clamp damage the glass panel?
