Vasant Kunj is built in pockets. Each one has its own boundary wall, its own gate, its own guard and its own idea of when work may happen. So there is no single Vasant Kunj rule. There is Sector B Pocket 1's rule and Sector C Pocket 8's rule, and the first thing we ask is which one you are in.
Every pocket runs its own gate
A Vasant Kunj pocket is closer to a small society than to a street. The guard takes names, often wants a phone number for each worker, and some pockets want the resident to come down and confirm.
None of it is slow once it is known. It is slow when it is found out at the gate.
So we ask for the pocket number when you call, and whether your pocket wants anything in advance. Where it does, we send the names the day before. The team then arrives, signs in once, and is at your door in five minutes rather than forty.
DDA flats and the newer towers are different jobs
The older pockets are DDA flats, ground plus three, with no lift. Everything goes up the stair by hand, and the turn in that stair sets the largest panel we can carry.
The condominium side is newer and has service lifts. There a full-height panel usually fits in one piece.
We measure whichever applies on the same visit as the bathroom. In a DDA flat that is the stair turn; in a tower it is the lift car and its door. Toughened glass cannot be cut down once it is made, so this is the one measurement that decides whether the job goes in cleanly or needs a slim joint.
Replacing twenty-year-old bathroom fittings
Most Vasant Kunj bathrooms were fitted when the pockets were built. They are now being redone properly rather than patched.
The old screen comes out, the hard silicone is scraped back, and sometimes a tile lifts with it. Sometimes the wall behind is damp, because the old seal failed years ago.
We look for that while measuring. If the wall is damp, the honest order is to dry it and fix the cause, then glaze. Sealing new glass over a wet wall only hides the problem for about a year.
