The short answer
Wardrobe glass usually breaks from a knock, or when a shutter jumps its track and hits something. Broken glass is made safe the same day, and the loose pieces are taken away. A framed panel gets matching glass, and a mirror is cut to the shutter's size. If a roller or guide caused it, we fix that too.

- How to tell
- The glass sits inside a slim metal frame, and the crack runs across it. Pieces may be loose, or the glass may have shattered into small bits. It often follows a knock from a bag, a box or a slammed shutter.
- What we do
- We take out the broken glass the same day and clear it away. Then we make a new panel to the size we measure, in the same type and thickness. Toughened glass takes longer, because it is cut before it is toughened.

- How to tell
- The shutter is a board with a mirror or glass fixed flat on its face. The crack spreads across it, and some pieces may still be stuck to the board.
- What we do
- We cut a new mirror or glass panel to the size of the shutter, with smooth finished edges. We fix it in the way that suits the board and the weight. If the board itself has split, a carpenter must repair it before the new mirror goes on.

- How to tell
- The glass broke when the shutter jumped out, dropped or hit the other shutter. The shutter may now lean, drag or sit crooked in its opening.
- What we do
- Before new glass goes in, we reset or replace the rollers, guides and stops. That way the new glass does not break the same way again.

What you can check first

- Keep back and take photos of the broken shutter from a safe distance.
- See whether the glass sits in a metal frame, or is fixed flat onto a board.
- Notice whether the shutter still stands upright in its track or leans out.
- Note whether the broken piece is clear glass, frosted glass or mirror.
Stop using the shutter, and keep children and pets away from the wardrobe. Do not pull loose pieces out by hand or slide the shutter. Glass can drop out of the frame as it moves.

Can I tape over cracked wardrobe glass until it is replaced?
We do not advise it. Tape can hold a few pieces for a while, but the glass is still unsafe. Pieces can drop when the shutter moves, and you may cut yourself fitting the tape. We take the broken glass out and clear it away on the first visit.
Can the new wardrobe panel be a different glass or a mirror?
Usually, yes, if it suits the shutter. A panel can be clear glass, frosted glass or mirror. Tell us before we measure, because each piece is made to order. A new piece may look slightly different from the older shutters beside it.
Is the glass in a wardrobe shutter safety glass?
It depends on the shutter. Some shutters have toughened glass, which breaks into small, blunt pieces. Others have ordinary glass or mirror, which breaks into sharp pieces. We tell you which you have, and whether the new piece can be toughened or laminated.
