What Gurugram actually builds
Gurugram is the most office-heavy market we work in, and the work here splits cleanly in two.
On one side there are managed towers: Cyber City, the Golf Course Road office blocks, the Sohna Road business parks. A floor here is fitted out whole, by a contractor, to a programme. The building has a written fit-out manual, a permitted work window, a materials gate and a security desk that enforces all three. Glass goes in at night more often than in the day.
On the other side there are condominiums, and there are a great many of them. A tower on Golf Course Extension or Dwarka Expressway is handed over bare, and every flat then gets a shower enclosure, a balcony glazing job or both, one at a time, with a fit-out deposit and a booked service lift.
They are different jobs with different rules. The one thing they share is that in Gurugram somebody is always checking, which is genuinely easier to work with than a building where nobody is.
Fit-out rules, and why we ask for the manual first
Almost every managed building in Gurugram has a fit-out manual, and it is not a suggestion. It will say what hours work may happen, which lift takes materials, what the contractor must carry as insurance, whether hot work is allowed at all, and what the deposit is.
We ask for it before quoting a tower job, because it changes the price honestly rather than later. A floor that can only be worked between 10pm and 6am takes more nights and more people than the same floor in daylight. Pricing it as a day job and then discovering the rule is how a fit-out slips a week.
For a condominium flat the equivalent is the fit-out NOC and the service lift booking. Both usually take a couple of days to arrange, which is time that runs in parallel with making your glass, so it costs you nothing if we start it early.
The tower decides the panel, not the drawing
Toughened glass is made to a size and cannot be cut afterwards. In a Gurugram tower the size is set by the service lift, and service lifts here vary far more than people expect.
We measure the lift car, the lift door and the lobby turn on the same visit as the room. In most condominium towers on Golf Course Extension and Dwarka Expressway a panel up to about eight feet goes in comfortably. In older DLF Phase 1 to 3 buildings it is less, and panels sometimes go up the fire stair instead, which sets a tighter limit again.
Where a run will not fit as one panel we design it as two with a slim vertical joint, and we tell you at the measuring stage rather than on fitting day. A toughened panel that will not go into the lift cannot be trimmed to fit. It has to be remade.
Gurgaon or Gurugram, and what people search for
The city was renamed in 2016 and most people still type the old name, so it is worth saying plainly that this is the same page for both. Gurgaon and Gurugram mean the same city, and we work across all of it.
The work itself goes by several names. An office glass partition is a cabin or meeting room in toughened glass, also called a glass cabin, a glass chamber or a glass cubicle. A frameless partition has no metal around the glass, held instead by patch fittings at top and bottom. An aluminium or modular partition sits in a slim frame and can be unbolted and moved, which is why it is the usual answer in a leased floor. A shower partition, shower cubicle and shower enclosure are three names for the glass that keeps water on the shower side.
If you have a drawing from an architect, send it. If you have a photograph of a room, that works just as well for a first number.
