Sohna is being built rapidly, and that has a practical consequence nobody warns you about: your finished glass will be standing next to somebody else's construction site. Protecting new glazing from what is happening around it is a genuine part of the job here, not a hypothetical.
Construction dust on new glass
Cement and construction dust settling on glass is not simply dirt. Cement is alkaline, and left on glass through rain and sun it etches the surface permanently.\n\nOnce the surface is etched, cleaning does not recover it and the panel has to be replaced.\n\nSo where building work is going on nearby we leave the protective film on until the surroundings are finished, or fit a sacrificial film. It looks unfinished for a while and it is much better than a hazed shopfront.
Fitting glass while the site is still active
Glazing should be near the end of a fit-out, after ceilings, flooring and painting, because everything that comes afterwards damages it.\n\nOn a fast-moving site that sequence often gets compressed and glass is asked for early.\n\nWhere that happens we protect the panels and say so in the quote, because the alternative is replacing scratched glass at handover. It is worth pushing back on the programme instead where there is any room to.
Levels and plumb in a very new building
A newly built shell has not settled and has not been tested, and floors are frequently not level across a whole unit.\n\nOver a long partition run a few millimetres becomes a visible taper at the top of the glass.\n\nSo we take levels across the floor and check the walls for plumb before setting out. Found first, it is a packing detail; found during glazing, it means re-ordering glass, which on a site at this distance is a real delay.
