Uttam Nagar is one of the most densely built parts of West Delhi. Builder floors go up five and six storeys on narrow plots, and the lanes between them are just wide enough for a scooter. Most of our work here is homes: shower screens, sliding windows, mesh and repairs. The real planning is in getting the glass to the flat.
Getting a van close to a narrow lane
Many lanes here are too narrow for a delivery vehicle to enter at all. So the vehicle stops at the nearest wide road, and the panels are carried the last stretch by hand.
That changes how big a panel can be. It has to clear the lane, the doorway and every turn of the stair.
We look at the whole route on the measuring visit, not just the room. Then every panel is sized to arrive in one piece.
Five floors up a narrow stair
Buildings here often go up five or six floors with no lift. Every panel is carried up the stair.
The tightest turn in that stair decides the largest panel. Where your shower needs a taller one, we make it as two panels with a slim joint.
Toughened glass cannot be cut once made, and it breaks completely if forced. So we never try to squeeze a panel round a turn it will not make.
Windows, mesh and small repairs
Much of the work here is small and practical. Sliding windows that stick, mesh on every window, and doors that no longer close.
Most of these are a worn part, not a failed frame. A stuck sliding window usually needs new rollers. A door that catches has dropped on its hinge.
We check the part first and fix only what is broken. That is usually far cheaper than people expect.
