The short answer
A shower door usually leaks because a seal has gone hard or torn. A seal is the soft plastic strip along the bottom or the closing edge of the door. The next common cause is a door that has dropped, so its strips no longer meet evenly. Most leaks are fixed in one visit, on the glass you already have.

The bottom sweep has gone hard or torn
- How to tell
- The sweep is the soft strip along the bottom edge of the door. When it fails, water runs out under the door and leaves a puddle along its length. The strip may look yellow, stiff or split.
- What we do
- We run the shower first and watch where the water gets out. Then we fit a new sweep cut to your door, matched to its gap and glass thickness.

- How to tell
- A wet line forms on the floor in front of the edge where the door shuts. On doors that click shut, the door may also drift open. That points to the magnetic strip, a pair of strips with magnets that hold the door closed.
- What we do
- We replace the closing-edge strip, or both halves of a magnetic strip together. We clean the scale off the glass edge first, so the new strip sits straight.

- How to tell
- A hinge is the metal fitting that holds the glass door in place. When hinges wear, the door sits lower at one end. The leak is then worst at one corner, because the strip touches unevenly.
- What we do
- We fit a new pair of bathroom hinges to the holes already in your glass. Then we set the door level, so its strips meet evenly along their length.

- How to tell
- This happens on sliding shower doors. Rollers are the small wheels at the top that the door hangs from. When one wears, that end hangs low and water escapes at that corner.
- What we do
- We fit new rollers and set their height so the door hangs straight. We also clean the rail, the metal bar the wheels run along.

What you can check first
These checks are safe to do yourself. A photo or a short video of what you find helps us come prepared.
- Dry the floor, run the shower briefly, and watch where water first appears outside.
- Look at the bottom strip. A yellow, stiff or split strip has usually stopped sealing.
- Shut the door and look at the gap along the closing edge. A gap wider at one end means the door has dropped.
- Look for damp patches away from the door, such as on the far side of the wall.
- Take a short video of the water getting out. It helps us bring the right strips.

The floor is wet but my shower door looks fine. Could the water come from somewhere else?
Yes. Water can come through cracked grout, a loose tile or a leaking pipe. It can also sit outside the shower if the floor slopes the wrong way. Those are tiling and plumbing jobs, which we do not do. If water only appears near the door while the shower runs, the door is the likely cause.
Can I run silicone along the bottom of the door to stop the leak?
Not on a door that opens. Silicone is a rubbery sealant that sets firm, so it only suits glass that does not move. A door needs a flexible strip that bends and wipes as it swings. Silicone put on a moving edge soon peels away.
Why does my shower door leak more when I use the handheld shower?
A handheld shower sprays low and sideways, straight at the door edges. A fixed shower head sends most water down the middle. So a worn strip on the closing edge shows up first with the handheld shower. Point the spray away from the door until the strip is changed.
Is a leaking shower door only a mess, or is it a risk?
It is a risk as well. A wet floor outside the shower is easy to slip on. That matters most for children and older people. Water that stands every day also leaves scale marks on the floor.
