A sliding partition is the answer when a hinged door has nowhere to open into. Two full-height glass panels sit side by side. One is fixed. The other slides across it on a track at the top. Nothing swings out into the room. So this works in bathrooms where a normal door would hit the basin or the WC. The glass is toughened, which is safety glass. Prices start at ₹870 per sq ft.

When a slider is the better choice

Whenever the dry half of the bathroom is too tight for a door to swing into. This covers most small flats, and many older bathrooms where the basin sits close to the shower.

It is also worth a look if someone in the house finds a swinging door hard to use. A sliding panel needs no clear space and takes very little effort to move.

A slider needs one thing: a straight run wide enough for the fixed panel and the sliding panel side by side. If your opening is very narrow, the gap you step through can end up too small. We will tell you that at the measuring visit, not after fitting.

The track, the rollers and the glass

Two full-height panels of toughened glass, normally 10mm or 12mm, depending on the size of the opening.

The sliding panel hangs from a track fixed at the top. There is no bottom rail. This matters in a bathroom, because a floor track collects water and dirt and is hard to clean. So we leave it out.

The rollers decide how the door feels for the next several years. We fit soft-close rollers. They slow the panel as it reaches the end, instead of letting it knock against the stop. The track and the pull handle are chrome finished to match.

We seal along both walls and the floor line of the fixed panel, using bathroom-grade anti-fungal silicone.

How we run the job

Send a photo of the bathroom and the width of the opening. We usually come back the same day with a rough range.

We measure once your tiling is finished, because the glass is made to the finished tile face. At that visit we check the opening width, the wall the track will fix to, and how the glass will reach the bathroom.

You get a written price. An advance covers the materials, then the glass takes a few working days to make.

Fitting is normally a day. The track goes up first and we level it with care. A track that is even a little out will make the door drift open or closed on its own. Then the fixed panel, then the sliding panel, then the seals. Wait about a day before using the shower.

What pushes the price up

A sliding partition costs a little more than the same opening with a hinged door. The sliding set and its track cost more than a pair of hinges, and there is more to fit and set.

After that, the same things apply as anywhere else: the area of glass, the thickness, any frosting or tinting, and a black or brushed finish instead of chrome.

A hidden track, where the fittings sit inside a cover, costs more again and gives a cleaner look.

And how easy the bathroom is to reach matters. A high floor with a booked service lift takes longer than a ground floor bathroom.

What customers say

4.7from 6 reviews of this work

  • Tanmay KulkarniMalleshwaram, Bengaluru★★★★★

Our bathroom is narrow and a hinged door was never going to work. The slider runs very smoothly, and the soft close means it never bangs.

  • Farzana MirzaWhitefield, Bengaluru★★★★★

No bottom track, which is what I wanted most after years of cleaning one in our last flat. Much easier to keep clean.

  • Opinder BediRajajinagar, Bengaluru★★★★

Well fitted and running smoothly. It took a day longer than planned because of a delivery, but they kept me informed all the way.

  • Leela VenkatesanHSR Layout, Bengaluru★★★★★

They spent a long time levelling the track before hanging the door, and explained why it mattered. It has never drifted open once.

  • Sarthak JhaMG Road, Bengaluru★★★★

Over a year in and it still slides easily. Good value for what it is.

  • Mridula NambiarBasavanagudi, Bengaluru★★★★★

Tidy work, no mess left behind, and they took the old partition away with them. Very easy to deal with.

Common questions

Does a sliding partition cost more than one with a hinged door?

Yes, a little. The sliding set and the track cost more than a pair of hinges. So a normal enclosure works out at about ₹30,500 instead of about ₹29,800. In a bathroom where a hinged door has nowhere to swing, it is usually the only good option.

I have guests coming in three weeks. Will it be done by then?

Easily, as long as your tiling is finished. We measure within a day or two, the glass takes a few working days to make, and fitting is a day. Allow one more day for the silicone to set. Tell us your deadline when you enquire, and we will say whether it is realistic, rather than promise and then move the date.

What happens if the rollers wear out after a few years?

They can be replaced, and it is a small job. Rollers see the most wear in a sliding enclosure, so we treat them as a part you can swap. You do not replace the whole enclosure. If a door starts to drag or run unevenly, it is usually the rollers or the guide, and both are cheap to change.

My bathroom is barely five feet wide. Can this still work?

Often yes, but it depends on the gap left once the fixed panel takes its share of the width. In a very narrow opening, a sliding enclosure can leave a gap that is hard to step through. We measure and tell you honestly at the visit. Where it will not work well, we suggest a fixed screen with an open entry instead.

Do you take away the old curtain rail or the broken partition?

Yes. Anything we remove leaves with us on the day, and that is included in the price. We do not add it afterwards. Old glass and aluminium are not something to leave in a flat or on a landing.
