Where a wall-to-wall framed partition fits
The same bathrooms that suit a frameless straight partition, plus one important one: bathrooms where the walls have moved.
In an older flat, walls are often a few millimetres out of straight. Frameless glass has almost no room to take that up, so gaps show along the edge, and the door may need packing to close well.
A slim frame takes up that movement inside the channel. In a bathroom being refreshed rather than rebuilt, that often makes it the better choice.
It also suits people who simply like the look. A matte black edge around clear glass is a chosen style, not a compromise.
The frame, the glass and the black finish
The frame is slim aluminium, powder coated in matte black as standard. Powder coating is a hard baked-on finish, not a paint. That is why it stands up to a wet bathroom far better than a sprayed one.
The glass inside is toughened, which is safety glass. The frame holds the edges, so it can usually be thinner than a frameless build needs.
The door is hinged and swings outward, with black hinges, a black handle and matching screws. So the whole partition looks like one piece.
Sealing is two things: an edge seal on the door itself, and silicone at the wall and floor joints. The door seal stops water crossing the closing edge, so it is not something to leave out.
From enquiry to a working shower
Send a photo of the bathroom and the width of the opening. We usually reply the same day with a rough range.
We measure once your tiling is done. At that visit we check how straight the walls really are, which tells us how much the frame needs to take up. We also confirm which way the door should open.
You get a written price, and once you agree, an advance covers the materials. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days from measuring to fitting.
Fitting is a day. The frame goes up and is levelled first, then the glass, then the door, then the seals. Wait about 24 hours before using the shower, so the silicone sets.
What a framed partition adds to the price
We charge the frame by the running foot. So a partition with a lot of edge for its area costs more than one with two large panes.
Most bathroom enclosures are small. As with any shower enclosure, the fittings make up a larger share of the price than they would on a big job.
A non-stock powder-coat colour adds cost and a few days. Frosted or tinted glass is charged by the area we treat.
And as always, how easy the bathroom is to reach matters. A high floor with a booked service lift adds time compared with a ground floor bathroom.
