Why people choose fluted over frosted
Both give you privacy. They are different products and they age differently.
Frosting is a treatment on the surface of clear glass. It is sprayed, etched or applied as a film. It works, and it is cheaper. Over years of cleaning, film lifts at the edges and sprayed frosting can go patchy where it is scrubbed.
Fluting is the shape of the glass itself. There is nothing on the surface to come off, so it looks the same in year ten as in year one.
The other difference is light. Frosted glass scatters light and reads as flat white. Fluted glass bends it into vertical bands, so the panel changes through the day as the light moves. That is what people are actually buying.
The bathrooms this enclosure suits
A bathroom shared by more than one person, where somebody may be at the basin while another is in the shower.
A guest bathroom, where the shower is on view from the door.
A bathroom with a window straight onto a neighbour's flat or a common corridor, which is common in apartment blocks. Fluted glass keeps the daylight and takes away the view.
And a bathroom that is simply plain, where the enclosure becomes the main thing to look at. A fluted panel with black fittings changes the feel of a plain white bathroom without retiling it.
How we fit it, and what the ribs demand
Two things matter that do not matter on plain glass.
The ribs must run vertically on every panel. Water runs down a rib and off the bottom edge. Ribs turned sideways would hold a line of water in every groove, which marks in weeks in hard water. We do not fit them sideways even if asked.
And the ribs have to line up from panel to panel. Where a fixed panel meets a door, the rib spacing should carry across the joint so the eye reads it as one surface. That means setting the panels out together before drilling anything, and it is why this build takes a little longer on site.
We fit the smooth face inward, towards the shower, so the side that takes soap and hard water wipes clean in one pass.
What decides the price
₹1,175 per sq ft is the starting rate. A normal 35 sq ft enclosure comes to about ₹41,100 before GST.
The reason it is well above our ₹850 clear enclosure is the glass, not the work. Fluted toughened glass costs us more than twice what clear glass of the same thickness costs. It is made in smaller batches and ordered in specially for your job.
Everything else is the same job: the same hinges, the same seals, the same silicone, the same measuring visit, and about half a day more on site to line the ribs up.
If the price is more than you want to spend, ask us about the fluted screen with a clear door. Leaving the door clear takes roughly ₹220 per sq ft off, and in most bathrooms the door faces a wall anyway.
