Bathrooms on these plots are often larger than a flat's, and that changes the job. A big room gives you choices about where the enclosure goes, and it also means a standard size rarely fits the space properly. Most of what we do here is working out the right shape before we make anything.
A large bathroom needs the enclosure placed, not just sized
In a compact bathroom the enclosure goes in the corner, because there is only one corner it can go in. Here there is usually a real choice.\n\nWhere it goes decides whether the door swings into the towel rail, whether the WC is inside the splash line, and whether you walk past wet glass to reach the basin.\n\nSo we mark the footprint on the floor with tape during the survey and ask you to walk it. People change their mind at that point more often than not, and it costs nothing to change it then.
Panel weight on a wide opening
A wider opening means a wider door, and a wider door in the same thickness of glass is heavier on its hinges.\n\nPast a certain width a hinged door starts to drop over time, which is when it begins to catch on the tile. The answer is either a sliding layout, a fixed panel with a narrower door beside it, or heavier hinges rated for the weight.\n\nWe work that out from the measured opening rather than from the picture you liked, and we say which of the three we would fit and why.
Older bathrooms on these plots, and what is behind the tile
Many of these houses have been here long enough to be on their second bathroom. Taking out an old screen sometimes finds soft plaster or a hollow patch behind the tile.\n\nA fixing into a hollow patch holds for a while and then does not, and by then the glass is loaded.\n\nSo we tap the wall along the fixing line before drilling. If it sounds hollow we move the fixing, or make the patch good first. It is a short delay against an enclosure that comes loose in a year.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
