- A stop is the small block that holds the shutter inside its safe range. When a part fails, the shutter leans out or its bottom slips from the groove. You may find broken plastic pieces below it.

- How to tell
- The shutter jumps out only when it passes the other one. The two shutters overlap unevenly, or their handles knock together.
- What we do
- We set both shutters to the right height and line up the guides. If the cabinet itself has twisted or a board has sagged, a carpenter must fix that first.

- How to tell
- The shutter comes out at the same point every time. Look along the track there and you may see a dent or a kink. A suitcase or heavy box stored against it can cause this.
- What we do
- We ease a gentle bend back and file the spot smooth so the rollers pass. A creased length is cut out and replaced. If the board the track is screwed to has split, a carpenter must repair it first.

- From a step back, see whether the top of the shutter is still inside the top track.
- Check the floor of the wardrobe and the bottom groove for fallen plastic pieces.
- Look at the board around the track screws for splits or screws pulled loose.
- Move boxes and bags away from the front of the wardrobe, without touching the shutter.
- Take one photo of the whole wardrobe and one close photo of the bottom groove.
Do not slide the shutter or try to push it back in. Keep children away from the wardrobe until it is refitted. A tall mirror, glass or board shutter is heavy and can tip out of the opening.

Can I keep using the other wardrobe shutter while one is off the track?
It is better not to. Both shutters run in the same tracks, so the working one can knock the loose one. Leave both where they are until the loose one is refitted.
Why does my wardrobe door jump out when I slide it hard?
A stop at the end of the track is usually missing or worn. The shutter hits the end at speed and bounces up out of the groove. With the stops set right, it comes to rest without jumping. A worn top guide makes this worse.
How can I tell whether the wardrobe or the sliding hardware is broken?
Look at the cabinet boards around the tracks. If a board is split, swollen or sagging, that is carpentry, and we do not do it. If the boards are sound, the fault is in the rollers, guides or track, and we fix those. A photo usually shows which one it is.
