Rajajinagar splits into two, and the street you are on tells us which job it is. On Dr Rajkumar Road and the main blocks there are showrooms, clinics and small offices. The work there is display glass, consulting rooms and doors. One street back, in the numbered blocks and Mahalakshmi Layout, it is settled housing. There most bathroom work is a replacement.
Showroom and display glass
A showroom front has a different job from an office partition. It has to be as clear as possible, take constant use at the door, and not show every mark.
So the front is toughened glass (safety glass), with the door on a floor spring made for public use. Where the display matters, low-iron glass is worth asking about. Ordinary toughened glass has a slight green tint at the edge. You cannot see it on a partition, but you can on a display case.
It costs more, so we only suggest it where it really makes a difference.
Clinics and consulting rooms
There are many clinics along these roads. A consulting room is the one glass job where sound matters more than looks.
Full-height glass, sealed at the top and both sides, with a door that shuts properly and no gap at the floor. A partition that stops short of the ceiling will not hold a talk in, at any price.
Frosting up to sill height, or a fully frosted panel, hides what people can see. Small rooms cost more per square foot, because a door set costs the same whatever it carries. So ordering three rooms together, instead of one at a time, is the real saving.
The housing blocks behind
One street back the work changes to bathrooms. Most of it is a replacement, not a first fitting.
These buildings have settled, so a slim aluminium frame usually suits them better than frameless. The channel takes up walls that are no longer straight. Where a bathroom has just been re-tiled, frameless is the better looking answer again.
What really stops a leak is a good seal along the door edge and bathroom-grade silicone around the joins, not the glass itself. Then allow about a day to set before the shower is used.
