Model Town is one of North Delhi's old, settled colonies. Its large family kothis are now being pulled down and rebuilt, one plot at a time, as modern builder floors with four flats instead of one house. So much of our work here is glazing brand new floors, straight after the builder has finished.
Glazing a floor the builder just finished
When a builder hands over a new floor here, it usually has bare bathrooms and no railing on the stair or balcony. The new owner then wants all of it glazed.
A new floor is the cleanest work we do. There is nothing old to rip out. The tiles are new and the walls are straight, so frameless glass sits beautifully.
We measure everything on one visit and quote it together.
The small lift in a rebuilt floor
Rebuilt floors often have a small lift, squeezed into the narrow plot. It may not take a full-height panel.
So we measure the lift car and door first. Where a panel is too tall, we make it as two with a slim joint. Or we carry it up the stair, if the turn allows.
Toughened glass cannot be cut after it is made, so this is decided before we order.
Railings on the new balconies
The new floors here usually have a front balcony and a stair between floors. Both need railings, and glass is the popular choice.
A railing stops a person falling, so its glass and clamps are chosen for that job. Without a top handrail, the glass must be thicker.
We will not fit a railing using partition glass. It is the one part of a new floor where safety decides the specification.
