The short answer
An aluminium door that will not close properly has usually sagged on worn hinges. A door closer that has lost its oil is the next common cause. On sliding doors, a dented track or a worn roller is usually to blame. Most of these are repaired on the door you already have, often in one visit.
Why it happens
Usually one of these 4 things, commonest first. Each one says how to tell, and what we do about it.
The door has sagged on its hinges
- How to tell
- The bottom corner on the handle side scrapes the floor or catches the frame. The gap along the top is wider at the handle end. You may see a screw standing out of a hinge.
- What we do
- Hinge screws can slowly pull out of the aluminium. We fix the hinges into fresh, solid fixings, or fit a new pair if they have worn. Then we set the door square in its frame.

- How to tell
- A door closer is the metal arm at the top of the door that pulls it shut. When it leaks, the door stops short of the frame or slams. You may see oil on the closer or on the floor below it.
- What we do
- A leaking closer is replaced rather than repaired. We fit the new one and set its speed. The door then shuts all the way without a bang.
Aluminium Door RepairFrom ₹2,070See this fixA sliding door catches at one spot in its track
- How to tell
- The door runs, then sticks or thuds at the same place every time. It will not reach the frame without a push. You may see a dent in the track at that spot, or packed dirt.
- What we do
- We find the exact point where the door catches. We put the track and rollers right, so the door runs to the frame. Any worn roller is priced before we fit a new one.
Door Stuck RepairFrom ₹1,710See this fixThe frame has pulled out of square
- How to tell
- The door binds at one corner and leaves a wide gap at another. A thin line may have opened at a corner joint of the frame. This is less common than worn hinges.
- What we do
- We pull the frame back square and tighten its corners, which takes longer than a hinge job. If the bottom of the frame has corroded badly, a repair will not hold. We tell you that before you pay for one.

What you can check first
These checks are safe to do yourself. A photo or a short video of what you find helps us come prepared.
- Stand back and look at the gap around the closed door, along the top and both sides.
- Look at the closer arm above the door for oil, and at the floor under it.
- Let the door swing shut on its own from halfway, and see how it ends.
- On a sliding door, notice whether it sticks at the same spot every time.
- Look at each corner of the frame for a joint that has opened.

Does a heavy aluminium door with a big glass panel sag sooner?
Usually, yes. A large glass panel adds weight, and all of it hangs on the hinges. The fixings work loose sooner and the hinge pins wear faster. That is why heavy doors tend to sag first.
Is it worth repairing an old aluminium door, or should I replace it?
Most old aluminium doors are worth repairing. The frame usually outlasts the hinges, closer and lock fitted to it. A new door makes sense only when the bottom of the frame has corroded badly. We tell you which one yours is on the visit.
Can I keep using an aluminium door that does not close fully?
You can, but the fault usually gets worse. A door that bangs or drags loosens its hinges a little more each time. On an entrance, a door that does not close is also a security problem. It is better to have it set right early.
Should I clean the track of my aluminium sliding door before you come?
You can sweep loose dust and grit out of the track. Do not lift the door or force it past the tight spot. If it runs well after cleaning, the rollers may still be fine. Tell us, because it changes what we bring.
