Old Gurugram is the city that existed before Cyber City: sectors 4 to 7, 14 and 15, the markets around Sadar Bazaar, and plot housing built anywhere from the seventies onwards. There are no fit-out manuals here and no estate offices. There are also no service lifts, and that is the trade-off that shapes every job.
No lift, so the stair turn is the specification
Almost nothing here has a service lift. Panels are carried up by hand, and the turn in the staircase decides the largest one that can make it.
We measure that turn on the same visit as the room. It takes two minutes and it prevents the only truly bad outcome in this trade: a made-to-size toughened panel arriving at a building it physically cannot enter. Toughened glass cannot be trimmed down, cannot be eased round a corner, and when it fails it fails completely.
Where a run needs to be taller than the stair allows, we build it as two panels with a slim vertical joint. From normal distance you will not pick it out, and every panel arrives in one piece.
Plot houses, and forty years of movement
The houses in these sectors were built over several decades and most have been altered since. Walls are rarely plumb, floors often slope slightly, and the room you are standing in may not be the shape the drawing says.
So we measure the room, not the plan, and cut each panel for where it is going. Where the floor slopes, the glass line is set from the finished floor rather than from a level line on the wall - otherwise the top follows the ceiling and the bottom opens a gap.
For bathrooms this decides frameless versus framed. Frameless glass is cut square and shows a leaning wall as a tapering gap. A slim frame absorbs it inside the channel. We check with a level and tell you which one your bathroom actually wants.
Shopfronts around the markets
Around Sadar Bazaar and the sector markets the work is shopfronts and entrance doors, and the rule there is that the shop cannot lose a day.
A broken front is the most urgent job we do. We clear the broken glass properly - toughened glass breaks into many small pieces and they travel - and board the opening so the shop can secure itself tonight. Then we measure.
On the replacement, the honest position matters. A stock thickness and size we hold can move fast. A made-to-size toughened panel takes three to five working days to cut, drill and toughen, and paying more does not shorten it. Anyone promising a toughened shopfront the same afternoon is fitting plain glass, which does not belong in a public entrance.
