Commercial Street, Cunningham Road and the lanes around Russell Market are some of the tightest places we deliver to in the city. Shops here are narrow and packed side by side. For much of the day a vehicle cannot get near them. The glass work is normal shop work. Getting it to the shop is the hard part. So we plan that first.
We plan the delivery before the glass
On these lanes a vehicle cannot park outside your shop for most of the day. In some places it cannot get in at all.
So we deliver very early, stop as close as we are allowed, and carry the panels in by hand. That is normal here and we price for it. Carrying a large toughened panel two hundred metres through a lane takes people and time.
It also changes the design. Panel size is limited by what we can carry safely around corners. So where one panel is too big, we make the front as two panels with a slim joint.
Narrow fronts and display glass
Most shops here have a narrow front and want as much of it as possible in glass, because the front is the display.
That usually means a fixed panel on each side of a toughened glass door. The door goes on a floor spring made for heavy daily public use. Where the shop sells small costly goods, we fit locking display glass inside too.
We list every part on the written price. On a street where many shops will quote you, that is the only way to compare a cheaper price fairly.
Working before you open
Most shops here open late morning, which suits us. We start early. We are usually done, or well ahead, before the street fills up.
A door repair fits into a morning. A full front takes a day or two. We do it in steps, so you lose as little trading as we can.
Anything that changes the shop face needs the building owner's yes first. Start that early. On this street the glass will be ready long before the permission is.
