Commercial Street, Cunningham Road and the lanes around Russell Market are the tightest lanes we deliver into anywhere in the city. There is no loading bay. For much of the day, no vehicle can get in at all. The glass work is normal shop work. Getting it to your shop is the hard part. We plan that first, and it really limits what we can build.
We plan the delivery before the glass
On these lanes a vehicle cannot stand outside your shop for most of the day. In some places it cannot get in at all.
So we deliver very early. We stop as close as we are allowed. Then we carry the panels in by hand. That is normal here and we price for it. A large toughened panel (this is safety glass) is heavy. Carrying it a couple of hundred metres through a lane takes people and time.
This also limits the design. Panel size depends on what we can carry safely around corners. Where one pane would be too big, we build the front as two panels with a thin joint. That is a real limit, not a choice.
Narrow fronts, where the front is the display
Most shops here have a narrow front. They want as much of it as possible to be glass, because the front is the display.
That usually means a fixed panel on each side of a toughened glass door. The door sits on a floor spring made for heavy daily public use. Where the shop sells small costly goods, we fit locking display glass inside too.
We list every part on the written price. Several glass makers will quote you on this street. Listing every part is the only fair way to compare. A cheaper total on its own tells you nothing.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you backUsually the same day. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call. Then you know if a visit is worth your time.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening. We also check the walls, floor, ceiling and the way in. Your glass is made to these final sizes, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt shows the glass, the fittings and the fitting work as separate lines. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We make it and fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Then we make your glass. Our team delivers it, fits it, checks the doors line up and clears the site.
