Buildings in Frazer Town and Cooke Town were never built to hold glass partitions. High ceilings, deep verandas, arched openings, and walls that have moved a lot since they were built. None of that stops the work. But it does change what we fit. It also makes this one of the more interesting areas we measure.
Height changes the glass, not just the price
A partition here is often well over normal height. That has real effects.
Taller panels need thicker glass. A long run usually needs a support rod at the top tying it back to a wall or the building. A tall panel with nothing to brace it will bend. That movement loosens the fittings over a year or two.
A long panel is also harder to carry up a staircase than a normal one. So the staircase turn matters more here than almost anywhere. We measure it on the same visit as the room. Where a panel will not make the turn, we build the run as two with a thin joint.
Arched and widened openings
An arched or widened opening is rarely the same width at the top and the bottom. In these buildings, very few are.
So we measure the opening at several heights, not once. Frameless glass has almost no room to take up a difference like that. The gap shows down the edge.
A slim aluminium frame takes it up inside the channel and hides a lot. Where a room has just been fully redone and the openings made square, frameless looks better again. We say so, not just fall back to the frame.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you backUsually the same day. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call. Then you know if a visit is worth your time.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening. We also check the walls, floor, ceiling and the way in. Your glass is made to these final sizes, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt shows the glass, the fittings and the fitting work as separate lines. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We make it and fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Then we make your glass. Our team delivers it, fits it, checks the doors line up and clears the site.
