Glass window repair: a new pane or a hardware fix?
A cracked or shattered window pane needs new glass. We measure the pane, inspect its frame and quote the replacement. Aluminium and uPVC frames can often stay when they are sound. A sealed double-glazed unit must be assessed as a complete unit.
If the glass is intact but rattles, the beading or supports may need attention. If the window drags or will not lock, its rollers, hinges or locking gear may be the cause. Tell us which fault you see so we can inspect the right work. Do not push on damaged glass or take it out for measuring.
Where broken glass replacement is needed most
Office partitions and cabin doors, where a trolley has hit a panel or a door has been forced. Shop fronts, where the damage is usually at street level. Shower enclosures, where a panel has been chipped at an edge. And homes, where windows, stair railings and terrace partitions all take knocks.
One point is worth knowing. A chip at the edge of a toughened panel is worse than it looks. Toughened glass gets its strength from its treated surface. Once an edge is damaged, that strength is gone, and the panel can break later with no warning.
So a chipped edge on a stair railing or a full-height office panel is worth replacing, not watching.
What goes back in
Glass matched to what was there. The same type, the same thickness and the same treatment. So the new section does not stand out next to the panels around it.
For doors and office partitions that usually means toughened glass, which is safety glass. For shower enclosures it means a slightly thinner toughened panel. We can supply laminated glass where the spot calls for it.
We keep existing frames wherever they are sound. We renew the rubber gaskets and the beading strips that hold the glass in, where they have worn out. Old gaskets are a common reason a new panel rattles.
We refit the door fittings to the new panel and set them straight. Where a hinge, clamp or handle is worn, we quote it on its own line. We do not hide it in the glass price without telling you.
From cracked pane to fitted glass, and how fast
Call us or send a photo. A photo really helps here. It tells us the size, the type of glass and how it is fixed, and all three decide what we bring.
If the glass is unsafe, the first visit is about making it safe. We take out the loose glass, clear it away, and board or screen the opening so the space stays secure.
Then we make the new panel. Where a standard size fits, we can sometimes do it the same day. Cut-to-size toughened glass takes a few working days, because it is cut and drilled before it is toughened and cannot be worked on afterwards.
Fitting the new panel is usually a short visit.
What moves the price above ₹520 per sq ft
The type and thickness of the glass first. A thicker or specially treated panel costs more than plain toughened glass.
Then the fixings. If the existing frame, gaskets or door fittings have to be renewed, we quote those as separate lines.
Then access and urgency. Making an opening safe outside normal hours, or working at height, takes more time.
And last, the shape. A plain rectangle is the cheapest thing to replace. A shaped panel, or one with cut-outs for fittings, needs more work before it is toughened.
