In a trading sector the repairs that matter are the ones stopping the unit working: a front door that will not close, a broken pane, a shutter-side panel that has been hit. We also do the quieter list - windows, mesh, mirrors, glass tops - for the offices above, usually on the same visit.
The floor spring is the part that fails
A glass entrance door hangs on a floor spring, which is the mechanism set into the floor that controls how it closes.\n\nOn a door used continuously it weakens gradually rather than suddenly. The door stops closing the last few inches, then starts to sag, then the bottom patch fitting works loose.\n\nChanging the spring when it stops closing cleanly is a straightforward morning. Leaving it until the door drops usually means new fittings and sometimes new glass, because a sagging door cracks at the patch corner. It is much cheaper early.
Sealing an office above a market against noise
The offices over these shops hear the market, and the sound gets in through the window rather than the wall.\n\nAn old single-glazed aluminium window with worn seals is effectively an open gap. Replacing the seals alone makes a noticeable difference for very little money.\n\nWhere that is not enough, double glazing - two panes with a sealed gap - cuts considerably more. We would try the seals first and tell you what it achieved before quoting the bigger job.
Getting a broken front boarded before closing
A unit with a broken front cannot be locked up for the night, which is the real problem rather than the glass.\n\nSo the priority on a breakage call here is boarding, and we get to that as fast as we can rather than waiting until we can do the full repair.\n\nThe replacement pane is cut to the measured opening and fitted after hours, so the unit trades normally in between. Toughened glass at street level, because it breaks into blunt granules rather than shards.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
