Almost everything we repair in NIT is something a shop or a home above it uses every day: a door that will not shut, a broken front pane, a window that has stopped sliding, torn mesh, a cracked mirror. The work is ordinary. Doing it without closing the shop is the part that takes planning.
Entrance doors that get used a thousand times a day
A shop door on a market street does far more work than a door in a house, and it fails in a predictable order.\n\nFirst the floor spring weakens and the door stops closing fully. Then it starts to drop, and the bottom corner catches the frame. Then the patch fitting at the corner of the glass begins to loosen.\n\nCaught at the first stage it is a floor spring, which is a morning. Caught at the third it is usually a new door leaf. On a door this busy it is worth acting when it stops closing cleanly rather than when it jams.
Making a broken front safe before it is pretty
A broken shopfront on a street this busy is a hazard to people walking past, not just an open shop.\n\nSo we separate the job. First visit: take out the loose glass, board the opening, make it safe. That we do as fast as we can get there.\n\nSecond visit: the new pane, cut to the measured opening, fitted properly. Trying to do both in one go usually means waiting hours with broken glass in a frame over a pavement, which is the wrong order.
Mirrors, table tops and the things that get asked for last
A good deal of what we fit here is not a window at all. Mirrors for a shop or a bathroom, glass tops for a counter or a table, a shelf, a replacement pane in a cupboard door.\n\nAll of it needs the edges worked and the corners taken off, because an unpolished edge on glass at hand height is a cut waiting to happen.\n\nWe cut to a template or to measurements taken on site, polish the edges, and drill any holes before toughening rather than after, since toughened glass cannot be drilled once it is made.

- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
