Rust starts inside the joint where two sections meet and works outward, so the first visible sign is already well advanced.\n\nWe check joints by hand rather than by eye, cut out and re-weld what has failed, and repaint the whole run rather than patching - a patched repaint always shows. Where a grille has rusted through in several places, replacing it in aluminium usually costs less than repairing it twice.

Glazing a balcony turns it into usable room, and it is one of the most common things asked for on these houses.\n\nThe decision is how much of it opens. Fully sliding panels give you the balcony back when you want it and cost more. Fixed glass with one opening section costs less and is a permanent change.\n\nBoth need a drainage path at the base, because rain will get in past any sliding track. We build that in rather than sealing it solid, since sealed balcony glazing collects water with nowhere to go.
