Ulsoor is one of the oldest parts of the city we work in, and it shows in every measurement we take. The buildings around Halasuru and Cambridge Layout have stood for decades and been added to more than once. Very little in them is square any more. That is not a problem, but it does change what we suggest. It is also why we never quote this area from a photo.
Why an aluminium frame often wins here
In a building of this age the walls lean a little, the floor is rarely level, and the opening is a few millimetres wider at the top than the bottom.
Frameless glass has almost no room to take that up. A gap shows down the edge, and the door may need packing to close properly.
A slim aluminium frame has that room built into the channel. It costs a little less on a plain run, because it takes thinner glass, and it hides a lot. We will price both and tell you honestly which one your building really suits.
The lanes, and how we deliver into them
Most of Ulsoor is reached down lanes where a long vehicle should not be at all. So we deliver early, unload straight away, and move off.
Panels then go up by hand. So the staircase decides the largest panel we can carry. We measure that turn on the same visit as the room.
Where a panel will not make it, we build the run as two panels with a slim joint. We do not try to force one. Forcing a toughened panel round a corner is how it ends up in pieces on your landing. Toughened glass (safety glass) cannot be replaced from stock.
What people buy here
A wide mix. Small offices and clinics in old buildings. Showroom and shop glass along the main road. Fixed screens and railing panels in the older houses. And a steady flow of shower enclosures, nearly all of them replacements.
On the bathroom side: if the frame has rusted, the seals have worn out and the silicone behind the tiles has failed, that is what twenty years looks like. Then replacing it is the right answer. If the glass is sound and only the hinges or seals have gone, that is a real repair and we will price it as one.
