Repairs in a plant are not office repairs at a different address. The doors are heavier and used harder, the panels get hit by things offices do not have, and the work has to fit a shift pattern. What stays the same is the first principle: we check the moving part before quoting a replacement.
Doors on a shop floor wear differently
A cabin door on a shop floor is opened by people carrying things, often with a shoulder or an elbow rather than a hand, and often while wearing gloves.
So it fails faster than an office door and it fails in the same places: the closer or floor spring first, then the handle, then the lock alignment as the door drops.
The answer is to specify for the use rather than replace with the same again. Where a domestic-weight closer has been fitted to a door on a production floor, it will fail again in a year. We fit the rated part and say why, because doing otherwise is selling the same repair twice.
Damaged panels, and why they are always replaced
Forklifts, trolleys and stacked material chip and crack partition glass on a working floor, and the answer people want is not available.
Toughened glass is under tension throughout its thickness. Grinding out an edge chip removes the compressed surface that holds the panel together, and the panel usually fails afterwards - sometimes not immediately, which on a shop floor with people around it is worse than failing at once.
So a chipped or cracked panel is replaced, at three to five working days for a made-to-size toughened one. Where a panel is in a traffic route, that is a recurring cost, and it is worth talking about guarding the edge or moving the line rather than replacing the same panel every year.
Making a floor safe before the replacement arrives
A broken panel on a working floor is a safety issue immediately, and the replacement cannot be immediate.
So the first visit clears the glass properly - toughened glass breaks into a great many small pieces which travel a long way across a hard floor - and closes the opening off so the area can keep operating safely.
How it is closed depends on what the room does. A quality room may need it sealed rather than just boarded, because dust is the point of the room. We will ask what the space is for rather than boarding it the same way regardless, and then the made-to-size panel follows in three to five working days.
