Industrial partition work follows different rules from an office fit-out, and the differences are worth setting out plainly. The access is the best we get anywhere - ground level, wide doors, no lift. The scheduling is harder, because a plant does not stop for a partition. And the rooms themselves want opposite things from one another.

A supervisor cabin and a quality room are not the same partition

They frequently sit within a few metres of each other and get quoted as one standard build, which is how one of them ends up wrong.

A supervisor cabin is about sightlines. It wants maximum visibility onto the floor, so it is usually clear toughened glass full height, with a frosted band only where a desk needs privacy. Seeing matters more than quiet, and a mullion in the wrong place blocks the view of the very machine the supervisor is watching.

A quality room is the reverse. It wants dust and noise kept out, which needs proper seals at head and base and, where quiet genuinely matters, double glazing rather than single. A single sheet of toughened glass cuts much less sound than people expect.

We price them as the different rooms they are.

Sparks, dust and the partition line

This matters more here than anywhere else we work, and it is better asked directly than discovered later.

Grinding sparks pit glass permanently. Welding spatter does the same. Neither can be polished out, and neither is covered by any warranty because it is damage rather than a defect. Dust settles into fresh silicone before it cures and stays in it.

So glass goes in near the end of a fit-out rather than the beginning. And where there is ongoing hot work beside the partition line, the honest answer may be that glass is the wrong material there - it is strong, but strong is not the same as suitable, and it is neither a spark screen nor a heat barrier. We will say so even where that means a smaller job.

Planning around a shift

On a plant job the constraint is never the lift. It is when the line stops, and how the work is sequenced against it.

Some plants want the work on the weekly off. Some want it between shifts. Some can isolate a bay while the rest runs, which is usually the cheapest because the team works continuously rather than setting up and clearing away each time.

So tell us the shift pattern with the enquiry rather than after the quote. It decides how many people we send and how many visits it takes, and those are the two things that move an industrial price. One full weekly off is very often cheaper than four short windows, even though it sounds more disruptive.

How the job works

  1. Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
  2. We call you backUsually the same day. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call. Then you know if a visit is worth your time.
  3. We come and measureWe measure the opening. We also check the walls, floor, ceiling and the way in. Your glass is made to these final sizes, so they must be right.
  4. You get a written priceIt shows the glass, the fittings and the fitting work as separate lines. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
  5. We make it and fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Then we make your glass. Our team delivers it, fits it, checks the doors line up and clears the site.

Common questions

Can the same partition spec be used for the supervisor cabin and the QC room?

It should not be, and it is how one of them ends up wrong. A supervisor cabin is about sightlines - clear glass, full height, frosting only where a desk needs it, and no mullion blocking the view of the machine being watched. A quality room needs dust and noise kept out, which means proper head and base seals and often double glazing. We price them as different rooms.

There is welding near where the partition goes. Does that matter?

A great deal. Grinding sparks and welding spatter pit glass permanently, cannot be polished out, and are not covered by any warranty because they are damage rather than a defect. Toughened glass is strong but it is neither a spark screen nor a heat barrier. Tell us what happens around the partition line and we will say honestly whether glass belongs there, even where that means a smaller job for us.

Can you work while the line is running?

Often yes, if a bay can be isolated - and that is usually the cheapest arrangement, because the team works continuously instead of setting up and clearing away around each shift. Where the whole area must be clear, one full weekly off is normally better value than several short windows. Tell us the shift pattern with the enquiry and we will price to suit your production.

When in a plant fit-out should the glass go in?

Near the end. Dust settles into fresh silicone before it cures, and any grinding or welding still to happen will pit the panels permanently. Toughened glass cannot be repaired, so a damaged panel is remade at three to five working days. Fitting glass early in an industrial fit-out is one of the more expensive sequencing mistakes available.

Is the rate per square foot of glass or of floor?

Glass, always. It is the most common reason a price looks higher than people expect. A 10 x 8 ft cabin sounds like 80 sq ft. But if three sides are glass and each is eight feet tall, that is about 216 sq ft. Your written price shows the glass area so you can check the maths.

Is GST included in these prices?

No. Every rate on this site is before GST. Your written price shows the amount and the GST as two separate lines, so there is no surprise at the end.
