These blocks were fitted out uniformly, so the windows and doors are the same across hundreds of flats and they are now reaching the end of their lives together. That makes faults predictable and it makes group work genuinely worthwhile, which is the most useful thing to know about repairs here.
The same fault arriving across a whole block
Where a block was fitted out at once, the hardware wears out at roughly the same time everywhere in it.
So if your window catch has failed, the same catch in the flats around you is a year or two behind at most.
That is worth using. We quote several flats together, order the parts once and make one visit instead of six spread over a year. It reduces what each household pays, and it usually only needs one person to ask the neighbours.
When the original part is no longer made
Windows of this generation use sections and fittings that have largely gone out of production.
So a like-for-like repair is often genuinely impossible rather than merely expensive.
The honest options are adapting a current fitting where it can be made to work, or replacing the unit with a new one sized to the opening. We say which applies rather than ordering parts that will not come, and on these windows adaptation usually works because the frames are simple.
Changing a window without it showing from outside
In a uniform block the elevation reads as one thing, and a single replacement in a different colour or pane division is visible from the ground.
That matters to neighbours and often to the society.
So we match frame colour and pane divisions to what is already there rather than fitting whatever is standard. It usually costs nothing extra to specify and it is the difference between a repair nobody notices and one everybody does.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
