Houses of this age have small high-level ventilators above the doors and windows, put there to move air before anybody had a ceiling fan in every room. Most are now painted shut, broken or blocked, and they are the cheapest thing in the house to put right for the amount of difference they make.
What the ventilators were for
A high-level ventilator lets hot air out at the top of a room while cooler air comes in lower down, which is how these houses were designed to work.\n\nOnce painted shut or blocked, the room relies entirely on the window and the fan.\n\nFreeing them is usually a small job — cutting the paint line, freeing the pivot, replacing a broken pane or a missing mesh. In a room that gets hot in the afternoon it makes a genuine difference, and almost nobody asks for it.
Glass and mesh in a ventilator
These often have a single small pane and, where there was mesh, it has long gone.\n\nA ventilator without mesh is an open invitation once it is working again, which is usually why it was blocked in the first place.\n\nSo when we free one we fit mesh in a small removable frame at the same time. It is a few hundred rupees and it is the difference between a ventilator that gets used and one that gets shut again within a week.
Reaching things at high level in a tall room
Ventilators sit above door height, and in a house with tall rooms that is beyond comfortable ladder reach for most people.\n\nThat is largely why they stay broken: not because the repair is difficult but because nobody wants to get up there.\n\nSo it is worth having them all done in one visit while we are already set up rather than one at a time. On a house with six or eight of them the difference between one visit and several is most of the cost.

- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
