Most of what we do in Sector 17 is small: a handle, a roller, a torn mesh, a cracked pane, a mirror. These jobs are easy to get wrong commercially - the travel costs more than the part, and people are quite reasonably wary of an open-ended bill. So we price them differently.
Why we quote before opening anything up
The honest difficulty with small repairs is that you cannot always see the cause until something is apart.\n\nSo we give the price for the likely fix before starting, and if it turns out to be something else we stop and tell you before carrying on.\n\nWhat we will not do is take a window apart and then present a larger bill because it is already in pieces. If the diagnosis changes, the decision goes back to you with the window still usable.
Putting several small jobs into one visit
A call-out covers getting a person and a van to your door, and that is most of the cost of a small repair.\n\nSo two separate visits for a handle and a mesh cost roughly twice what doing both at once costs.\n\nWhen you call, it is worth walking round the house first. Most people find three or four things once they look: a stiff window, a torn mesh, a loose handle, a mirror that has started to spot. Told in advance, we bring the parts for all of it.
The parts we carry, and the ones we cannot
Rollers, handles, stays, hinges, common gaskets, mesh and standard fixings we carry, so those are usually done on the first visit.\n\nGlass is the exception. Every pane is cut to its opening, so a broken window means measuring first and fitting on a second visit, normally a few days later.\n\nWhere a pane is broken we board or tape the opening safely on the first visit rather than leaving it. It is worth knowing which category your job is in when you call, because it sets the expectation properly.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
