Tower windows are large, heavy and often on a high floor, which changes how they are repaired rather than what is wrong with them. The failures are familiar - rollers, gaskets, catches, mesh, balcony glass - but almost all of the work has to be done from inside, and that is the constraint that matters.
Repairing a large sliding door from the inside
A full-height sliding door in a tower is heavy, and the usual complaint is that it has become hard to move.\n\nThat is nearly always the rollers, which carry a great deal of weight on a large panel and wear faster because of it.\n\nChanging them means lifting the panel out of its track and back, which needs enough people to do it safely inside the flat. It is not a one-person job on a door this size, and attempting it as one is how glass gets broken and floors get damaged.
Why we do not work off the outside of the building
The outer face of a window on a high floor cannot be reached safely without proper access equipment, which is not something to improvise.\n\nSo everything we do here is done from inside: panels come in, gaskets are changed from the room side, and mesh is fitted internally.\n\nWhere a job genuinely cannot be done from inside - an external seal on a fixed pane, for instance - we will tell you that it needs proper access arranged through the building rather than doing it unsafely from a balcony edge.
Balcony glass and what the wind does to it
Balcony glazing on a high floor takes far more wind load than the same panel at ground level, and the fixings feel all of it.\n\nSo the thing to watch is not the glass but any movement or rattle at the base, which means a fixing has started to work loose.\n\nA rattle on a high-floor balcony is worth reporting quickly rather than waiting. We check and re-fix the base rather than adding sealant over it, because sealant over a loose fixing hides the movement without stopping it.
