Repairs here fall into two groups. Shop glass on Sampige Road and Margosa Road, where a broken front sits on a footpath full of people. And house glass in the streets behind, most of it older than the shops and set into wood, not aluminium.
A broken shop front on a busy road
The first job is safety, not glass. We clear the loose pieces and take out what is still hanging in the frame. Then we board the opening. Then you can trade and nobody gets hurt.
The new glass takes longer. Toughened glass (safety glass) cannot be cut after it is toughened. So we make your panel to the measured size and then fit it. That is normally a second visit a few days later.
We give you the honest date at the first visit. A shop front you can lock is worth more than a promise about tomorrow.
Glass set in old wooden frames
Many windows in these houses are plain glass held in a wooden groove with putty or a wooden bead.
We match the thickness to the groove. A wooden frame cut for four millimetre glass will not take a toughened panel. Forcing one in splits the bead.
Where the wood itself has gone soft, we say so. New glass in a rotten frame comes loose again within a season. That is not a repair worth paying for.
New aluminium and uPVC windows when the frame has failed
Sometimes a window frame can no longer hold its glass or its lock. New glass will not fix that. We do not repair the wood either, because we do not do carpentry. Instead we fit a new aluminium or uPVC window, made to the opening. Houses on the Malleshwaram cross streets rarely share one window size.
Far more often, the window only needs a part. A sliding window that drags usually needs new rollers, the small wheels under it. A uPVC window that will not lock usually needs a handle or an adjustment. We change that part and leave the rest alone.
A new sliding window can carry a mosquito net in its own track. The mesh then slides aside as the glass does. Ask for it when we measure, because adding it later may need an extra track.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
