These pockets were fitted out uniformly, and the windows, doors and grilles are mostly still the originals. That means the faults are consistent across whole blocks, and it means parts for them are increasingly hard to find. Both facts shape how a repair here is best approached.
When the original part no longer exists
Windows of this generation use sections and fittings that are largely out of production.\n\nSo a like-for-like repair is often not possible, and the realistic choices are adapting a modern fitting or replacing the unit.\n\nWe will say which applies rather than ordering something that will not come. Where adaptation works it is much the cheaper answer, and on these windows it usually does, because the frames themselves are simple and robust.
Doing a whole pocket at once
Since every flat in a pocket has the same windows fitted at the same time, neighbours reach the same faults within a year or two of each other.\n\nThat makes group work genuinely worthwhile: parts ordered in quantity, one visit, one setting up.\n\nWe are happy to quote a pocket or a stair on that basis, with each flat still measured and priced individually. It is the largest saving available on repairs of this kind and it only needs one person to organise the neighbours.
Grilles, mesh and the escape route
Nearly every flat here has fixed grilles, most of them decades old and welded shut.\n\nA fixed grille across the only window of a room is a blocked escape route, and in a building of this age that is worth treating seriously.\n\nSo whenever we work on a grille we offer an opening section with a simple internal catch on at least one window per room. It costs little, it is no weaker from outside, and it is what we would want in our own flats.

- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
