Windows and doors here were generally bought as the cheapest option available when the house was built, and they behave accordingly. The good news is that most of them are repairable, and upgrading the parts inside a sound frame gets you most of the way to a better window for a small fraction of the price.
Upgrading the parts rather than the window
In a budget window the frame is usually adequate and the moving parts are not.\n\nRollers, catches, hinges and gaskets are all standard components, and better versions of each will fit the same frame.\n\nSo a window that sticks, rattles and does not lock can often be brought back to working properly for the price of parts and an hour's labour. We always price that before pricing a replacement, because it is the right answer far more often than people expect.
uPVC that has gone chalky or yellow
White uPVC exposed to strong sun goes chalky on the surface and yellows over years, and people assume the window is finished.\n\nIt is a surface change, not a structural one. The frame underneath is usually sound and will go on working for years.\n\nSo unless it is cracked or distorted, discolouration alone is not a reason to replace a uPVC window. We will tell you that plainly rather than quote a replacement for something that is cosmetic.
Getting several neighbours done at once
Houses on these streets were often built around the same time by the same local builders, with the same fittings.\n\nSo when one house needs rollers, the houses either side usually do too.\n\nWe are happy to quote a few homes together. - We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
