The pockets here were built to a small number of layouts, so the bathrooms are compact and consistent. Consistent is helpful — we know these rooms — but compact means the layout has to be exactly right, because there is no spare space to absorb a decision that turns out badly.
Why the door decision matters most in a small bathroom
In a room this size the shower door is the only thing that moves, and everything else is arranged around it.\n\nA hinged door needs clear floor, and that floor is where somebody stands at the basin.\n\nSo it is usually a sliding door or a fixed panel with a walk-in opening. Both keep the floor usable. We mark the swing on the floor at survey so you can see what a hinged door would actually take, which usually settles the question in a few seconds.
Making a small bathroom feel less closed in
Frosted or patterned glass in a compact bathroom makes it feel considerably smaller, because it stops the eye at the enclosure.\n\nClear glass lets you see the far wall, and the room reads as its full size.\n\nSo unless the bathroom is genuinely shared with people who want screening, we would fit clear. It is the same price and it is the single biggest difference to how one of these rooms feels once the work is done.
Fitting where the flat is occupied and small
In a compact flat there is nowhere to put materials, so we bring the glass in and fit it rather than staging it in a room.\n\nThat means the bathroom needs to be clear before we arrive, and the route to it free.\n\nIt sounds minor and it saves a surprising amount of time.
