Bathrooms here are generally compact and in buildings with awkward access. Neither is unusual and both are worth planning for, because the bathroom that is easy to work in and the bathroom that is easy to reach are rarely the same one in this part of Delhi.
Measuring the route before the room
In a flat above a shop or behind a market, the bathroom is usually the furthest point from the front door.\n\nGlass has to travel that whole way, through a front door, a passage and a bathroom door, each of which may be the tightest point.\n\nSo the survey starts at the street and finishes at the bathroom. Where a full panel will not make it, the enclosure is designed in sections and assembled inside, which costs a little more in hardware and nothing in delay.
Working in a flat with one bathroom
Most of these flats have a single bathroom in daily use, so the room cannot be out of action for long.\n\nSo we do not remove the old enclosure until the new glass is made and in the building.\n\nThat way the bathroom is unusable for part of a day rather than for a week. It takes an extra visit and it is worth it, and we would rather plan it that way than leave a household without a shower while glass is being cut.
A compact bathroom that also has to dry
A small bathroom in an old building often has poor ventilation, and enclosing the shower makes that worse before it makes it better.\n\nSteam that cannot escape condenses on every surface, and grout stays damp.\n\nSo we leave a ventilation gap at the top of the enclosure rather than sealing to the ceiling, and we ask whether the extractor actually works. An enclosure in an unventilated bathroom concentrates the damp instead of containing it, and that is worth knowing before fitting it.
