These bathrooms are old enough that a separate shower area was never part of the design, but they are generally sound. So the job here is usually adding an enclosure to a working bathroom rather than rebuilding one, and the useful question is how little has to change for it to work properly.
The three checks that decide whether anything else is needed
Before recommending anything we check three things: is the tiling sound, is the wall reasonably flat, and does the floor fall towards the drain.\n\nIf all three pass, an enclosure goes straight onto the bathroom as it is, with no other work at all.\n\nIn flats of this type they usually do pass, which is the cheapest possible outcome. We say so when it applies, because people arrive expecting to be told the whole bathroom needs redoing.
Working around a geyser or a pipe on the wall
In these flats the geyser and some pipework are often surface-mounted on the bathroom wall, sometimes right where an enclosure wants to land.\n\nMoving a geyser is a separate trade and a separate cost.\n\nSo we design around it instead: shifting the enclosure line, or running the panel up to the pipe and sealing neatly against it. It is almost always solvable without moving anything, and we will show you the options on the wall before ordering glass.
Keeping the bathroom usable during the work
Most of these flats have one bathroom, so the fitting has to be done in a single continuous visit.\n\nWe plan it that way: everything measured beforehand, glass made, then removal, fixing, glazing and sealing in one run.\n\nThe bathroom is unusable for part of a day and available again that evening, except that the shower itself should not be used until the silicone has cured overnight. We say that at the start so the evening can be planned around it.
