A finished house in a developing sector sits beside building work and unmade ground for years, and that puts far more dust into everything than a settled area does. It is temporary, it is worse than people expect, and most of the damage it causes is preventable with maintenance rather than repair.
Tracks that fill several times faster
Sliding window and door tracks here collect dust at a rate a settled area never sees, and that grit wears rollers and blocks the drainage slots.\n\nOnce those slots block, rain fills the track and goes inside, which reads as a leaking window and is nothing of the kind.\n\nSo the useful routine here is clearing tracks and slots twice a year rather than once, before the monsoon and again after the dry season. It takes minutes with a vacuum and it prevents most of what we would otherwise be called out for.
Cement dust, which damages glass permanently
Ordinary dust washes off. Cement dust is alkaline, and left on glass through rain and sun it etches the surface permanently — no cleaning recovers it.\n\nSo glass near active building work needs washing off rather than being left until it looks bad.\n\nWhere work is going on immediately adjacent, covering the affected windows for the duration is cheaper than replacing a hazed pane afterwards. It is worth doing for a neighbouring plot's construction as much as your own.
Mesh that clogs instead of tearing
In a dusty sector mesh blocks with fine particulate rather than failing mechanically, and a clogged mesh stops airflow almost completely.\n\nPeople notice a room that has become stuffy rather than a mesh problem, and replace it, and six months later it is the same.\n\nSo mesh here has to come out to be washed, which means a rigid removable frame rather than mesh fixed to the window. Washed twice a year the airflow is fully restored, and the same mesh lasts for years.
