We replace shower door handles and knobs across Bengaluru. A shower handle is gripped with wet hands many times a day, and splashed the rest of the time. Cheap ones pit, stain your palm brown, and finally work loose or snap at the fixing. The holes for a handle are already in your glass, made before toughening, so this is one of the quickest bathroom repairs there is. What goes wrong with bathroom handles
The plating fails first. Steam and hard water eat through thin chrome, the surface pits, and rust starts to bloom where your hand lands. A rusting handle marks towels and hands, and it only spreads.
The fixings loosen second. A handle is tightened through holes in the glass with rubber washers between. Years of wet and dry cycles compress the washers, the handle rocks, and every pull works it looser.
Snapping comes last. A knob or a thin handle, rusted at its stem, gives way on an ordinary morning. The person holding it usually gets a fright and a wet floor, and the door is left with no way to pull it open.
At the rocking stage, this is a small planned job. That is the stage to call.
Knobs, bars and back-to-back handles
A knob is the smallest option, a single point to pull, common on lighter doors. A bar handle gives a full grip and suits heavier doors and older users, because a bar can be held with the whole hand, wet or dry.
Most shower handles are back-to-back: one piece outside, one inside, bolted to each other through the glass. Both faces come as a set, so a broken inside half means changing the set, not one side.
Whatever the shape, the material is the decision that matters in a bathroom. We fit stainless steel, not chromed mild steel. It costs slightly more and is the difference between changing this handle once and changing it every few years.
The one-hour visit
The old handle comes off, which on a rusted one sometimes means cutting the bolt rather than unscrewing it. We do that with the glass protected, and it adds minutes, not hours.
The holes are cleaned of old washer residue and scale. The new handle goes on with fresh rubber washers both sides of the glass, tightened snug and no further. Over-tightening a handle through glass is how holes crack, and it is the commonest DIY damage we see.
The door stays on its hinges throughout. There is no drilling, because the holes already exist, and no sealant to wait for. You can shower the same evening.

Chrome-look stainless is on the van. Matte black and brushed finishes are ordered and take a few days, worth it when the mixer and shower set are black too.
