A handle is the part of a glass door that gets touched most, so it is the part that fails first. It works loose, the finish pits and rusts, or it snaps off at the fixing. We replace shower handles, office H handles, knobs and long shop-door pull bars, matched to the holes already in your glass. Most jobs take under an hour. Prices start at ₹1,100 per handle, supplied and fitted.
The handles we replace
Shower handles. Usually a small bar or a knob, fixed through one or two holes near the edge of the door. These live in water and are the first to rust.
H handles. The long bar with a short grip inside and a longer one outside, common on office cabin doors and shop doors. A standard one is 300mm inside and 450mm outside.
Knobs. A round or square knob on each side, through a single hole. Common on smaller doors.
Pull bars. Long vertical bars on shop fronts and restaurant doors, sometimes over a metre long, through two holes.
And handles with a lock built in. These need the lock and the handle to match, so we treat them as one part.
Matching the holes in the glass
Every handle fixes through holes drilled before the glass was toughened. Those holes cannot move. So the new handle must match two things: the size of the hole, and the distance between the holes if there are two.
Most handles in India follow a few standard spacings, and we match to those. Where the spacing is unusual, some handles come with an adjustable fixing that covers a small difference. Where nothing matches, a cover plate can hide an old hole while a new handle uses the other. We tell you which of these applies before we order anything.
This is why we ask for one photo before we come: the handle, with a tape measure across the holes. It saves a second visit.
A loose handle: tighten or replace
A handle that wobbles is not always a broken handle. Often the through-bolt has loosened, or the rubber washer between the handle and the glass has squashed flat over the years.
We take the handle off, fit new washers, and tighten it correctly. Correctly means firm, not as tight as possible. A handle over-tightened against glass with no washer is one of the common reasons a door cracks at the hole.
If the thread has stripped or the handle has cracked at the base, it is replaced. Either way, if tightening is all it needs, we charge for the visit and not for a handle.
What decides the price
A standard H handle in chrome, supplied and fitted, starts at ₹1,100. A shower handle or a knob is usually a little less. A long pull bar for a shop front costs more, and so does a handle with a lock built in.
Black and brushed finishes cost more than chrome. A pair of matching handles for a double door is priced as two.
The visit is included when we come to fit a handle. If we are already at your site for another job, changing a handle at the same time adds only the part.
