Houses here are at the age where the frames are fine and the moving parts are finished. Rollers, floor springs, catches and gaskets all have similar lifespans, so once one has failed the rest are close behind. Treating that as a single planned job is considerably cheaper than a series of call-outs.
Floor springs on a main door
A glass main door hangs on a floor spring set into the floor, and it weakens gradually rather than suddenly.\n\nThe door stops closing the last few inches, then it begins to sag, then the bottom patch fitting works loose and the glass starts to crack at the corner.\n\nChanged at the first stage it is a morning's work. Left to the third it is usually a new door. On a main door this is the clearest example of a repair that is much cheaper early.
Rollers, and why forcing a window costs more
A sliding window runs on small wheels in a bottom track, and grit wears flats onto them so the window drags.\n\nPeople push harder, which bends the interlock and racks the sash, and at that point the frame needs work rather than a part.\n\nSo a window that has become stiff is worth dealing with while it is stiff. We will tell you honestly if it can wait, but the difference between a set of rollers and a new sash is the whole reason to ask early.
Doing the house in one pass
Because these parts wear at similar rates, fixing one window usually means the next is a few months behind it.\n\nSo we look at everything while we are there and quote what is due now and what is close.\n\nYou can then do the lot in one visit, which is cheaper per window because travel and setting up happen once, or spread it over a year knowing what is coming. Either is fine; being surprised four times is the expensive option.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
