Glass has cracked or shattered, and the first question is not the price. It is whether the place is safe to use. Call us first. On the first visit we take out what is left, clear every piece, and cover the opening firmly. Then we measure, and the new glass is made to that size. Broken glass is usually made safe the same day.
The first visit: making it safe
A cracked pane can go at any moment, and a shattered one leaves an opening and a floor of fragments. So the first visit is about the opening, not the new glass.
We take out whatever is still in the frame, including the small pieces held in the gasket. We clear the pieces from the floor, the track and the sill. Then we cover the opening with a rigid sheet or board, fixed firmly, so the room is closed and safe.
A balcony railing panel is treated as urgent. A missing panel is a gap at a height, and we barricade it on the same visit.
Measuring and matching the glass
New glass is made to your sizes, so we measure the opening properly, not the broken piece. We note the thickness, the type and the edge finish you had.
We match what was there unless there is a good reason to change it, and we tell you if there is. A door that broke once may be better in toughened glass, which is safety glass. A railing panel must be railing-grade, thicker than a door pane. A shower panel must be toughened. A shelf can be plain.
Toughened glass has to be cut to size before it is toughened, so it cannot be trimmed on site. That is why the measuring matters, and why it takes a few days to make.
Doors, windows, showers and partitions
A cracked pane in an aluminium, wooden or uPVC window is the same job every time. The frame stays. The glass and the rubber gasket are new. We re-bed the pane and renew the beading, the strip that holds it in.
A glass door or a shower door is a toughened panel with holes drilled for its fittings. We measure the hole pattern from the fittings, and the new panel is made to it. The hinges, the patch fittings and the handle are reused if they are sound.
A partition panel in an office is replaced in the same way, at night or on a Sunday if the office cannot stop.
Table tops, shelves, mirrors and balcony panels
A table top is cut with polished edges and rounded corners, and toughened if the size or the use calls for it. A shelf is the same, cut to the brackets you have.
A mirror is cut to size and fixed with the right adhesive and clips, so it cannot come away from the wall. A mirror turning black at the edges is replaced, not repaired.
A balcony railing panel is 12mm toughened or laminated glass, made to the clamp pattern of your railing. We check the clamps beside it while the railing is open, because whatever broke one panel may have loosened the next.
What it costs
Glass is priced by the square foot, fitted, and the rate depends on the type and the thickness. The starting rates are on this page. The first visit, the clearing and the cover are part of the job.
We measure on the first visit and give you the price in writing before the glass is cut. GST is shown as its own line.
