Aluminium doors and windows last for decades. Their small parts do not. The rollers, the lock, the handle, the hinges and the rubber around the glass each wear in their own time, and one worn part makes the whole window feel finished. It is not. We repair aluminium doors and windows across Bengaluru by checking every part in order and changing only the one that has failed.
Why aluminium windows drag, rattle and stop locking
A sliding aluminium shutter runs on two small rollers in its bottom rail. Road dust and grit collect in the track, and the rollers grind on it until their bearings seize. The shutter drops, scrapes and misses its lock.
The rubber around the glass shrinks in the sun. Once it does, the pane rattles when a truck passes, and dust and rain get past its edge.
The lock and the handle are cast metal, and a lock that is forced against a dropped shutter breaks. Most locks we are called for are fine once the shutter is set back to its height.
The order we check things in
The track comes first. It is cleaned and dressed, which means the worn groove is filed smooth and any bent edge straightened. Then the rollers: worn ones are changed as a pair rated for the weight of the shutter, and the shutter height is set.
Only then do we look at the lock and the handle. Many work normally once the shutter meets its keeper squarely. A part is changed only when it has failed, and you see it first.
Last is the rubber. If the pane rattles, the glazing rubber is renewed all round and the pane sits firm again.
Aluminium doors: hinges, closers and alignment
A framed aluminium door hangs on hinges bolted to the frame, and it drops when they wear. The dropped door rubs the floor, misses its lock and leaves a gap at the top. We change the hinges as a pair and re-set the door square.
An overhead door closer that slams or drifts is changed and set for the weight of the door. A lock and handle set is changed when the cylinder or the latch has worn.
A door on an office or a shop can be done at night or on a Sunday, so the entrance is never out of use during the day.
Frames, partitions and glass
An aluminium frame section that is dented or bent can often be straightened, and a damaged section replaced with a matching profile. An aluminium partition in an office with a door that will not close is the same job as a door: hinges, closer, lock and alignment.
The glass in an aluminium frame is not touched unless it is loose or cracked. Loose glass is re-bedded on the same visit. Cracked glass is measured, made to size and fitted on a return visit, with the frame staying in the wall.
Repair or replace
Most aluminium faults sit in the shutter and its hardware. The outer frame is usually sound and stays. That avoids breaking plaster and keeps a good frame in service.
A new window makes sense when the outer frame is bent, when its corners have opened, or when it has pulled away from the wall and lets water in. We tell you plainly when that is the case, and we can price a new aluminium or uPVC window beside the repair.
