The three handle types on aluminium windows
Sliding windows use a latch handle. It is a small lever that hooks into the frame and pulls the shutter, the moving part of the window, closed. It snaps more often than the others, because the casting is thin and people force it when the shutter drags.
Casement windows, the type that swing outward, use a handle that presses the shutter tight against its seal. They often have a stay arm that holds the window open at an angle.
Some older windows have crank handles that wind the window open. Their gears wear with age, and then the crank spins without moving the window.
All three follow standard patterns and fixings. A photo of your handle tells us which one to bring.
Why window handles snap
A snapped handle has often been forced, because the shutter itself had become hard to move. Worn rollers or a gritty track make the shutter drag, and the handle is the weakest point.
So a snapped handle can be a sign of a problem in the window. A new handle on a dragging shutter will be forced in the same way.
That is why we slide the shutter before fitting the handle. If it moves freely, the handle was simply old. If it drags, we tell you. Rollers or a track clean can be done on the same visit, at their own fixed price, and you choose.
The fitting, and the stripped-screw problem
Aluminium frames hold screws in thin metal, and years of use strip the threads. The old handle then spins on loose screws. Driving in bigger screws can split the frame.
We fix it properly, with fresh fixing points where the metal allows, and threaded inserts or backing where it does not. The handle should feel firm, with no rocking, because rocking is what loosens it again.
We align the keeper at the same time. The keeper is the piece the latch hooks into. The latch should catch on the first pull, without lifting or slamming the shutter. We also check that the latch holds the window against a pull from outside, which a worn keeper often does not.
Pricing for one window or a whole flat
One handle, supplied and fitted, starts at ₹553. Each extra handle on the same visit is the same rate. So a flat with six windows means six handles and one visit.
Crank units cost more than latches. They are priced as the part plus the same fitting. Key-locking window handles cost a little more, and they are worth having on ground floor and children's rooms.
