Why people choose aluminium: slim frames and more glass
Aluminium is strong for its size. A frame can be slim and still hold a large sheet of glass. So an aluminium window shows more glass and less frame than any other kind, and the room gets more light from the same opening.
That strength matters most on a wide window. Where an opening runs across most of a wall, aluminium shutters stay straight and keep sliding easily. This is why it is the usual choice for living rooms, offices and shops.
It also does not rust. The colour is a powder coat, baked onto the metal, so there is no paint to peel.
Aluminium sliding window colours: black, grey, brown, white and wood
The powder coat comes in many colours. Black, grey, white, brown, ivory and champagne are all available, and so is a wood-look finish.
Choose the colour when you order. It is applied to the lengths of aluminium before your window is made, so it cannot be changed afterwards.
Dark frames look sharp against a pale wall, and they get hotter in direct sun than pale ones. That does not harm the window. It is worth knowing if the window faces west and you touch the frame in the afternoon.
2-track, 3-track with a mosquito net, and windows with a grill
A 2-track aluminium sliding window has two glass shutters. A 3-track window has a third track carrying a sliding mosquito net shutter, so the glass can stay open with the net shut.
Wide windows are made with three or four glass shutters. We decide the number at the measuring visit, from the width of the opening. A shutter that is too wide is heavy to push and wears its rollers early.
A safety grill can be fitted with the window, and it is planned along with the frame. If you have a grill already and want to keep it, we measure the new window to suit it.
Clear glass is standard. Toughened glass, which is safety glass, is available, and we suggest it on large shutters.
Aluminium sliding window price per sq ft in Bengaluru
The rate starts at ₹500 per sq ft, fitted, before GST. That is for a standard 2-track window with clear glass. A window 4 ft wide and 4 ft high is 16 sq ft, so it starts at ₹8,000.
The rate rises with a third track and net shutter, a safety grill, toughened glass, a wood-look finish, and extra shutters on a wide opening.
Quotes for aluminium windows vary a lot, because frames are made in light and heavy sections. Ask every quote which section, which rollers and which glass it is for. Our written price names the glass, the number of tracks and each extra on its own line, so you can compare like with like.
A very small window is quoted as a job, because the fitting day costs the same however small the window is.
Taking out the old window and fitting the new one
We measure every opening first. We check that the sill is level, how deep the wall is, and how the old frame is held.
On the fitting day the old shutters and frame come out and are carried away. The new frame goes in level and square, and is fixed to the wall. We seal the joint between frame and wall all round, because that joint is where rain gets in, not the glass.
Then the shutters are hung and the rollers are set, so each one slides with a light push and locks without being lifted.
